For a quote, the useful things to include are the property address, what you are trying to build or fix, and whether anyone has already drawn a plan or pulled a permit. If a septic designer or a builder is already involved, say so; it changes the sequence and often the price.
We arrange a time to walk the property. That visit is where the real information comes from: how a machine gets to the work, where the water goes, what the ground is doing, and whether the access will hold a loaded truck in February. Photographs and satellite views are useful for scheduling and useless for pricing.
You get the number in writing, itemised enough that you can see what is driving it. If something on the job is going to be a problem — a tight drive, a wet corner, a permit that will take weeks — you hear about it then, not on the first morning of work. Usually within a few days. The site visit is free and it is not a sales call — we walk the ground, look at access and drainage, and tell you what the job actually involves. If the honest answer is that you do not need an excavator, you will get that answer.
A range, yes, once we know where the property is and what you are trying to build. A firm number needs eyes on the ground, because access and haul distance move the price more than square footage does. Most residential excavation in Clark County lands between $1,500 and $6,500.
Yes, and you should not have to ask twice. Licence and insurance documentation goes out in writing with every estimate, and we will send it ahead of the site visit if you would rather verify before anyone shows up.
Always. Washington's RCW 19.122.030 requires the excavation boundary to be white-lined and notice given not less than two and not more than ten full business days before work begins. A general contractor is allowed to make that call, but the statute keeps responsibility with the excavator, so we make our own and we do not start inside the waiting period.
Mid-June through September is the dry window and the easiest time to work almost anywhere in the county. Wet-season work is possible where access is on hard surface, but it costs more and carries a real risk of rutting the ground you are trying to protect. Higher ground around Camas and Hockinson opens up earlier than the low flats near the river.
